Knobless Cylinders (presentation two)
In this activity, children will learn how to grade the Knobless Cylinders from the biggest one to the smallest one. We can only use the yellow, green, and blue Knobless Cylinder boxes for this grading activity as the red box only varies in diameter so we cannot grade the cylinders using the red Knobless Cylinder box.
How to grade the Knobless Cylinders
The directress will ask the child to bring the Knobless Cylinder box to the mat, reminding him to hold it carefully with two hands. She will then begin to remove the cylinders one by one from the box and place them randomly on the mat with the box and the lid pushed to one side.
The directress will tell the child that we will be grading the cylinders from the biggest one to the smallest one. The directress will look carefully for the biggest cylinder and place it on the far left-hand side of the mat, she will then look for the second biggest cylinder and place it to the right of the biggest cylinder and this will continue until the cylinders have been graded correctly from biggest to smallest.
What is learnt by doing the second presentation of the Knobless Cylinders?
The child will acquire different skills by grading the Knobless Cylinders, for example, hand-eye coordination, crossing the midline, fine motor development, pincer grip, alignment, and judgment, as well as indirect preparation for reading from left to right.
