Sound Cylinders/Boxes (presentation two: Grading)
In this activity, the child learns how to grade the Sound Cylinders using only the box with the red lid from loudest to softest.
How is grading with the Sound Cylinders presented?
The directress unpacks each cylinder onto the mat randomly. She then listens carefully to each cylinder for the loudest noise, once she has found the loudest one she places it on the far left-hand side of the mat. Shen then tries to find the second loudest cylinder, she continues in the same manner until all of the cylinders have successfully been graded from loudest to softest. She shakes them and listens to them again to check if she has graded them correctly.
What does the child learn by grading the Sound Cylinders?
This activity develops the child’s auditory sense, it helps with the child’s language development, the child gets further practice in grading certain materials, in this case, the Sound Cylinders and this activity helps to make the child aware of the different sounds in his environment.
