Geometric Solids (presentation three)
How a three-period lesson is done using the Geometric Solids
The directress does a three period-lesson with the child to encourage him to name the Geometric Solids correctly. She introduces one known shape and two unknown shapes to the child, for example, she may use the Sphere, Cube, and Cone.
First period: the directress introduces the child to a shape, for example, the Sphere. She asks the child to feel the Sphere and say ‘Sphere’. She repeats in the same manner with the two remaining shapes. The directress isolates each one by placing it to one side.
Second period: the directress spends a lot of time in this period. She asks the child if he can show her the different shapes she calls out for, she then muddles them up and she asks the child again.
Third period: the directress asks the child if he can tell her what each shape is, pointing at each one as she does so. She isolates each shape by placing it to one side.
The directress consolidates the lesson by encouraging the child to tell her the names of each new shape he learnt, by pointing at each shape individually.
