The Strip Boards
In Montessori, we use many different materials to teach the child how to add and subtract. One of these beautifully designed Montessori Math materials is The Addition Strip Board, and Subtraction Strip Board. There are various activities involving the boards, they are listed below:
Addition Strip Board (presentation one)
The directress teaches the child how to make bonds of ten on the Addition Strip Board. She shows the child different ways of making the number 10 by using the strips. This is a wonderful activity that gives the child further practice in addition, and further practice with bonds of ten.
Addition Strip Board (presentation two)
The second presentation with the Montessori Addition Strip Board is similar to the first one. This activity increases in difficulty, as the child is encouraged to find the sum of an operation, using the addition strip board, and recording the answer on the sum card.
Subtraction Strip Board (presentation one)
The directress teaches the child how to do subtraction, using the Montessori Subtraction Strip Board. The directress begins by showing the child how to make bonds of nine on the board. Once the bonds of nine have been built correctly, she introduces the series sum card to the child and shows him how to find the answers on the card, using the subtraction strip board.
Subtraction Strip Board (presentation two)
The second presentation with the Subtraction Strip Board is similar to the first one, as the child again will be using the board to find the answers on the series sum card. The difference here is the child will use the wooden strips instead of the red strips, along with the blue strips to subtract.
