Addition Strip Board (presentation two)
How the second presentation with the Addition Strip Board is presented
For the second presentation with the Addition Strip Board, we use the Addition Series one sum card as well. The aim for this activity is to find the sum of 2 quantities using the Addition Strip Board and recording the answers on the sum card.
The directress begins by building the red stair on the right-hand side of the board while the child builds the blue stair on the left-hand side of the board. She reminds the child what the + and = signs mean. She focuses one the first sum on the card, which may read (2 + 1 =)
The directress shows the child how to take the number 2-blue strip and place it in the 1 -2 collum on the board, she then takes the number 1-red strip from the stair and places it next to the number 2- blue strip. The child is then asked to count from 2 (counting each section on the red strip) She shows him how to move her finger up and check the number above the last section of the red strip (3)
The child records the number 3 in the answer block on the card and replaces the strips back into the stair. The child assists the directress with the next operation in the same manner. The child is encouraged to complete the sums on the card and once they are completed, he should check the answers on the back of the card.
The directress works through series two and three cards in the same manner.
