Number Rods and Cards (presentation two)

How the second presentation with the Number Rods and Cards is presented

The directress shows the child once again how to carry each rod carefully, holding it with both hands and laying the rods out randomly on the floor mat. The wooden box containing the Numbers Cards is also taken and placed on the mat.

How is the second presentation of Number Rods and Cards done

She begins by asking the child to build a stair from the shortest rod to the longest rod. Once the child has built the stair correctly, she lays out the Number Cards randomly at the bottom of the mat. The directress first asks the child if he remembers matching the Number Cards to the rods and then she says to him that this presentation is a little bit different. She explains to the child that they will first be looking at the Number Card and then finding its matching rod.

Working further with the Number Cards and Rods

The directress looks at the first number card, for example, ‘4. She then takes her time counting each section of the rod until she finds ‘four’ - she shows him how to place the Number Card at the end of the rod. The child is asked to continue in the same manner, matching each card to its respective Number Rod until all of the cards have been matched correctly.
