Subtraction Strip Board (presentation two)
How the second presentation with the Subtraction Strip Board is presented
This activity teaches the child how to do subtraction with the Subtraction Strip Board and the Subtraction Series one sum car. For the second presentation with the Subtraction Strip Board we use the blue and the wooden strips.
The directress begins by asking the child to build the blue stair on the left-hand side of the board, while she builds the wooden strips at the top of the board. The directress asks the child to read the first sum on the card (5-3=). She covers the numbers from 6-18 with the wooden strips. She takes the number 3-blue strip from the blue stair and covers the strips on the board. She then counts the strips to the left of the blue-covered strips and notices how many were not covered. The answer is (2), as two of the strips were not covered.
The directress does the next operations in the same manner and then allows the child to have a turn. She then shows the child how to check the answers on the back of the card, once all of the sums have been completed.
The directress works through the Series 2 and 3 sum cards in the same manner.
