Bridging exercise between the Presentation Tray and the Large Number Cards

This activity combines the Presentation Tray and the Large Number Cards. The directress shows the child how to carry the Presentation Tray with two hands to the table as well as the Large Number Cards.

The child matches the ‘concrete’ Presentation Tray which has one unit bead, one ten-bead bar, one-hundred bead square, and one-thousand bead cube, with the ‘abstract’ Large Number Cards which have the written numbers 1, 10, 100, and 1000.

The directress introduces the Presentation Tray to the child once again. Then the directress moves on to show the child the number one card and asks him if he remembers what number it is, the child will say “one”. The directress then places the card beneath the unit bead. She continues in the same manner with the tens, hundreds, and thousands.

What skills does the child acquire by doing this activity?

This activity gives the child further practice with recognizing one unit, one ten, one hundred and one thousand in a concrete and abstract form as well as it promotes the child’s visual discrimination.
