Fractions in a Montessori classroom

In Montessori, the child is able to discover and grasp concepts such as equivalent fractions with ease. With our beautiful and inviting Montessori fraction insets, the child is able to feel as well as see what each fraction represents. The following Montessori Math activities which include fractions are as follows:

Fractions (presentation one)

In the first activity using the Montessori Fractions, the child is encouraged to match the fractions to the control chart.

Fractions (presentation two)

This presentation is done by the directress doing a three-period lesson. The directress will introduce a whole, a half, and one-third to the child to teach him the names of fractions.

Fractions (presentation three)

The third presentation is very similar to the one mentioned above. The difference here is the directress uses the written fraction cards to do a three-period lesson with the child.

Fractions (presentation four)

The main aim of the final activity using the Montessori Fractions is to combine the ‘concrete’ fractions with the ‘abstract’ written form.
