The Stamp Game: formation of a number
How is this activity is presented?
The directress begins the activity by reminding the child of the different quantities of the stamps, she points to each compartment. She starts with the units, by placing a stamp on the mat. She replaces the stamp and repeats with the tens, hundreds and thousands in the same manner.
She tells the child that they will be making numbers with the stamps. The directress asks him to make a number, for example, 4 units. Once she feels that the child can move on to higher amounts, she asks for a larger number, like 5 tens, and 3 units.
The directress gradually increases the amount each time, for example, 2 thousands, 4 hundreds, 5 tens and 7 units. She spends much time with the child in practicing forming numbers.
What the child learns by forming numbers with the Stamp Game?
This activity prepares the child for operations with the stamps and it helps the child to get familiar with the stamps.
