Three-period lesson with the Touch Fabrics

Three-period lesson with the Touch Fabrics

How is a three-period lesson is done by using the Touch Fabrics?

First period: The directress brings the piece of silk material forward to the mat. She tells the child: “this is silk”, the child then repeats: “this is silk”; she places it to one side. She does the same with the piece of wool and the piece of denim.

Second period: The directress places the three fabrics on the mat in order. She asks the child to show her the fabrics that she asks for, she muddles them up and does it again. She may ask the child to put silk in her one hand, then to put wool in her other hand, then to put denim behind her back. The directress spends a lot of time in the second period.

Third period: The directress places each piece of fabric one by one on the mat. She then asks the child to tell her what is the name of each fabric.

The directress then consolidates the lesson by encouraging the child to name each fabric individually by pointing at each one.

What does the child learn by doing a three-period lesson with the Touch Fabrics?

The child learns the names of each fabric, and a three-period lesson promotes language development.
