Touch Tablets (presentation one)
Children learn to match the touch tablets in this activity. The child’s sense of sight is taken away by either averting his eyes or having them blindfolded.
How is the first presentation with Touch Tablets presented?
The directress shows the child how to hold the box carefully with two hands. She unpacks the tablets from one box, allowing the child to feel each one, and lays them down vertically on the floor mat.
The directress asks the child to help her unpack the second box of tablets and lays them out randomly on the right-hand side of the floor mat. She tells the child they need to match the same touch tablets. She begins to avert her eyes and feels the first tablet in the row on the left-hand side of the mat. She then feels with her right hand the corresponding tablets on the right-hand side of the mat for the matching one. She picks it up and places it next to the first tablet in the row on the left-hand side of the mat.
She continues in the same manner until all are matched correctly. She then invites the child to have a turn.
What does the first presentation with the Touch Tablets teach the child?
This activity is indirect preparation for the Sandpaper Numbers, Sandpaper Letters and the Sandpaper Globe, as well as an introduction to opposites, comparatives, and superlatives.
