The logical adverb game (group/individual presentation)
What materials are needed for the logical adverb game?
For The Logical Adverb Game, the directress needs five red cards with verbs printed on them and five orange cards with adverbs printed on them. You will also need the symbol for the verb and the symbol for the adverb. All of these materials are kept in a wooden box in the Language area of the Montessori classroom.
How is The Logical Adverb Game presented?
The directress invites the child to work with her. She begins by giving the first verb card to the child and then asks him to read it and place it on the mat. She does the same with all the verbs cards until they are placed on the mat, one below the other.
The directress then gives the first adverb card to the child and asks him to read the card and to place it to the right of the verb card on the mat. She asks the child if it makes sense, for example, ‘run slowly’. If the child says yes, then she leaves it there, if the child says no then she moves the card down until the phrase makes sense. All of the adverbs should match each verb correctly.
Placing the verb and adverb symbols above the correct column
The child is encouraged to read all of the verbs and the adverbs that have been matched. If he has fully grasped the concept, then she can give him the symbols for the verb and adverb, and he can place them above the cards in their respective columns on the mat.
