The Logical adjective game (group/individual presentation)

What materials are needed for The Logical adjective game?

For this activity, the directress uses A logical adjective box, which contains a set of blue cards with adjectives printed on them and a set of black cards with nouns printed on them. The directress also uses the symbols for both the noun and adjective.

How is this activity presented?

This activity can be presented in either a group or individually. The directress invites the child to work with her and brings the materials to the mat. She begins by placing all the noun cards one below the other on the mat, asking the child to sound, blend, and read each noun card.

She takes the first adjective card and asks the child to sound out, blend, and read it. She then places it to the left of the first noun, and asks the child if it makes sense, for example, red rod. If the child says ‘yes’, she leaves it there, and if he says ‘no’ then she moves it down to the next noun to see if it makes sense. She continues to move the adjective further down until it makes sense.

The directress repeats in the same manner with the remaining adjective cards, starting from top to bottom until all the cards are matched correctly. When the child has finished matching the cards, he is encouraged to read the various combinations from left to right, and top to bottom. The directress can place the symbols for the noun and adjective at the top of the columns, only if the child has grasped the concept.

The directress consolidates what was learnt and thanks the child for working with her.
