Pink word lists
What are Pink word lists?
The pink word lists are vertical cards with five or more three-letter phonetic words from top to bottom. There is a picture at the top of the card which represents the first word. The words on the card rhyme as they have the same vowel/sound.
How are the Pink word lists presented?
In this activity, the child learns to read about five different three-letter phonetic words on a card. The directress begins the activity by introducing the word list to the child, she involves him by asking him what the picture is at the top of the card.
The child is then encouraged to sound, blend, and read the first word on the list. The directress uses her finger as a guide like before for the child to know which letter to sound out. He is then encouraged to repeat sounding, blending, and reading all the words on the list in the same manner.
The directress goes through as many lists as the child wants to. The more lists the better!

What the child learns from this activity
This activity is more abstract for the child, as there are no longer individual pictures to assist him, this activity gives the child further practice reading three-letter phonetic words, as well as it increases the child’s vocabulary.
The Montessori language learning process
There is a step by step process for all language materials in a Montessori classroom. The directress must first complete the pink reading materials (three-letter phonetic words), then the blue reading materials (four or more letter phonetic words), and finally she moves on to the green reading materials (phonograms e.g. ee, th, sh, ay, ie etc).
The directress presents the Blue word lists in the same manner as the Pink word lists. The difference is there are now four or more letter words instead of three.
