Lace Frame
The Lace Frame is the last of the frames in Montessori Practical Life and is considered to be the most difficult for children.
What makes the lace frame so tricky is that the children need to thread the lace through the top eye holes in the lace frame, then make each lace the same length. The kids then meticulously and patiently crisscross each lace over each other until the lace frame has been laced up.
This skill of lacing shows can be combined with tying up laces from the lace frame in practical life to put laces into shoes and tie them up.
Children will learn to undo laces and take the lace out of the frame and do the lace-up again. The child will be encouraged to unravel each lace one at a time, until getting to the top, then he will be asked to pull the lace completely out of the holes at the top of the frame.
