Brass polishing
Remember prising off the lid of the brass-polish tin and smelling inside? Or the familiar feel of that damp cloth that came inside the brass polish tin for cleaning the brass? Cleaning brass is one of the Montessori practical life activities and it’s an activity that not many children do these days anymore sadly.
What do children learn when polishing brass?
Brass polishing is an activity where children will learn to polish different objects made from brass. They’ll be using a correct polishing agent such as ‘Brasso’. Teaching children how to polish brass teaches the child care, practical home skills, how to use cloths, how to clean, and also how to use household cleaning products with care.
Through polishing, children will also turn dull brass into new and shiny brass. This will make them very proud of their achievement.
