Sitting at the table
Sitting correctly at the table is good for a child’s posture, correct growth, concentration and sets them firmly on the road of a lifetime of being polite and well-mannered.
Everything in a Montessori classroom is child-sized so the chairs and the tables will all fit perfectly for our little ones to enable comfort.
How are children taught to sit at the table in Montessori?
The director or directress will sit and present how to sit properly at the table on the child’s dominant side (the side with the hand they write with, eat with, or pick things up). Children are taught to sit up straight at the table and not to have elbows on the table. Presenting of sitting at the table in Montessori is done one-to-one with the child. Other children may silently watch at the table during presenting.
