Importance of the sun
What materials does the directress need for this activity?
For this activity, the directress needs a cut-out of the sun and different pictures of plants.
How does the directress show the child the importance of the sun?
The directress invites the child to work with her and brings all the materials to the mat. She begins by telling the child that they are going to be discussing the importance of the sun, and how we need the sun to survive.
She begins the activity by explaining what the sun is (the sun is a star, a burning ball of gas, etc….). She then tells him why the sun is so important (the sun gives us warmth and gives plants light to survive). The directress then places the cut-out sun in the middle of the floor mat and discusses each plant picture as she places them around the sun.
The directress ensures to involve the child as much as possible in having discussions about how important the sun is for plants to grow and survive, as well as humans. The directress can begin by discussing how humans need plants for survival, as when plants grow, humans get food as we eat the plants, and so on.
