Phylum (presentation one: overview)
How this activity is presented?
The directress invites the child to sit on the mat with her. She begins the activity by telling the child that animals are divided into different groups. She then tells him that all life begins with the primeval cell, she places the ‘primeval cell’ in the centre of the mat.
The directress explains to the child that all cells develop from this very important primeval cell, and many animals are microscopic (so small you can’t see them with the human eye, and can only be seen through a microscope). She then places the ‘protoza cell’ on the mat (one o’clock) of the ‘primeval cell’. She explains to the child that protoza are single-celled animals.
She places the labels and pictures down on the mat, briefly discussing each one. The directress continues naming and explaining each cell with its labels and pictures. When she has finish discussing each one, she reminds the child that animals are divided into groups.
The directress thanks the child for working with her and helps him pack away.
