Growing plants

How does the directress teach children to grow plants?

The directress invites a group of children to work with her and discover how to grow their very own plants. This activity encourages children to understand that plants are living and have a growth process, as well as to have a love and respect for nature, and the world around them.

The directress assists the children to wet two small pieces of cotton wool. They get a container ready and then place one piece of the wet cotton wool at the bottom of the container. They place the bean on top of the cotton wool and then place the second piece of wet cotton wool over the bean.

The directress tells the children that they must observe their experiment every second day. Every so often the children are encouraged to dampen the two pieces of cotton wool, and eventually the seed will grow. This is a wonderful process for children to observe, and learn how plants grow from a tiny seed in to a plant.
